Sherry Burton

September 3, 1946 - October 21, 2019

Sherry L. Burton, 73, of Lincoln passed away on October 21, 2019. She was born September 3, 1946 in West Point, Nebraska to Walter and Wauneta (Joden) Schmidt.

Sherry was a graduate of Lincoln Northeast High School and received her bachelor’s degree in Education from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. Sherry taught kindergarten in Columbus, NE for 20+ years. She spent 15 years in Kansas City, MO and the last few years in Lincoln Public schools until her retirement.

She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church and was a member of several committees at the Van Dorn Villa where she and Truman made a lot of friends. Sherry enjoyed playing cards with her many bridge groups, bible study, reading, singing, and ballroom dancing in which she and Truman met. They loved to travel to Branson, MO several times a year and also enjoyed cruises. Most importantly Sherry loved spending holidays and birthdays with her family. She was a loving spouse, sister, stepmother, step-grandmother and friend. She will be dearly missed.

Family members include her sisters Nancy (Darrel) Adcock of Fremont, NE, Jo (Terry) Brown of Waverly, NE, Patti (Alan) Vine of Mosinee WI; Stepsons Michael (Debbie) Burton, San Diego, CA, Stephen Burton of Kansas City, MO; Step-daughter Robin (Mark) Von hausen of Kansas City, MO; Step-grandchildren, Jennifer (Beau) Rothnell and William Von hausen; and several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her husband Truman Burton and her parents.

Celebration of life service: 10:00 a.m. Friday (11-1-19) Roper and Sons Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street. Burial will be in the Omaha National Cemetery, 14250 Schram Rd. on Monday (11-4-19) at 2:00 p.m.
