Phyllis (Harris ) Blumer

Phyllis (Harris) Blumer, 89 of Lincoln passed away May 5, 2018. Born on August 31, 1928, to Phil and Margaret (Sutherland) Harris in McCook NE. Phyllis moved to Lincoln as a young child. She began her life as a scholarly student leader serving as president of the student body at Whittier Jr. High and continued on to be in many activities at Lincoln High School and the University of Nebraska. There she was a member of Alpha Chi Omega, Mortar Board Society and Phi Beta Kappa Honorary. She was crowned Honorary Colonel, and Home Coming Queen.

After graduation she taught at Clinton and Hawthorne elementary schools and later preschool at Westminster Presbyterian Church. At this same time, she was an active member of Grace United Methodist Church, Junior League of Lincoln, Lincoln Parks and Recreation Board and other volunteer positions. Phyllis met Paul Blumer at Hartley School as a child, then after college they married and were blessed with 3 children. She was a devoted wife and mother who greatly enjoyed the outdoors waterskiing, snow skiing, ice skating and playing tennis well into her 70’s. She participated in a tennis club named Tuesday Night Tennis (TNT) and a Devotional Bible study group at Westminster Presbyterian Church. These groups included many of her closest and treasured friends. Phyllis’s zest for life was shown in her love for family, friends and strong faith. We will dearly miss our beloved wife, mother, aunt, and grandmother.

She is survived by her loving spouse of 68 years, Paul Blumer, daughters Paula (Doug) Varvel Omaha, Peggy (Keenan) Cain, Lincoln, and son John (Jan)Blumer, Lincoln.
