Leland L. Heckman, 99, of Lincoln died Friday, June 1, 2018. He was born November 2, 1918, on a farm southwest of Cortland, Nebraska; his parents were George and Emma (Boesiger) Heckman. He attended school in Cortland and had additional education at the Lincoln School of Commerce and the University of Nebraska Agricultural College.
He was married to Lucille McCormack in 1941. After serving in the Air Force from 1942-46, they moved to Lincoln, where he was employed for 10 years by the International Harvester Co., and 27 years by Cushman Motors, retiring in 1983.
He is survived by daughter, Mary Louise (Samuel) McPherson, Lincoln, CA; son, James Leland (Gayle) Heckman, Highlands Ranch, CO; grandchildren, Heather McPherson (Kevin) See, Lance (Amber) McPherson, Kyle (Stephanie) Heckman, and Joanna Heckman; and great grandchildren, Kaitlyn and Kaden See, Reese and Kesler McPherson and Hans Kyle Heckman.
He was an active member of First Plymouth Congregational Church for over 60 years, where he served on numerous boards. He was a Kiwanian, serving in various capacities from 1980 to 2015.
Family members will greet friends at Roper and Sons Funeral Home, 4300 O Street on Thursday, June 7, from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Celebration of Life Memorial Service: 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 8, at First Plymouth Congregational Church, 2000 D Street, Lincoln NE. Prior private interment.
