Jerry C. Joyce

February 29, 1932 - August 17, 2011

Jerry C. Joyce, 79, Lincoln, died peacefully with family by his side Wednesday (8-17-11). Born (2-29-32) in Weeping Water, Nebraska to Charles and Berenice (Colbert) Joyce. Graduate of Weeping Water High School Class of 1950. Korean War Veteran. Served in the Marine Corp (1951-1959). Member of Marine Corp League-Cornhusker Detachment. Former math teacher at Whittier Junior High.

Jerry’s real estate career included the renovation of Golds Galleria, Cherry Hill Construction (Rentfro-Joyce) Residential and Commercial Construction, founding partner of Town & Country Realty (State-wide franchise), development of Legacy Retirement Communities and the Arbors Memory Care, taught residential construction-G.R.I. Class for the NE Realtors Association, Past President of Lincoln Board of Realtors.

His awards include Weeping Water Distinguished Alumni Award (May 27, 2006), Lincoln Seniors Foundation Community 2008 Service Award, Better Business Bureau Integrity Award for 2005 (LRC), KFOR Best of Lincoln for Retirement Living for 14 years in a row, National Association of Home Builders-Senior Housing Councils-Gold Award for Legacy Estates for 2005.

Family members include wife Janet; son, daughter-in-law: Jerry and Kathy Joyce, Eagle, NE; grandson: Greg Joyce and wife Cayenne, Lincoln, NE; granddaughter: Angela Combs and husband Theron, Kansas City, KS; great granddaughters: Ella and Taylor Joyce; sister: Janice Mowrey, Lincoln, NE; sister-in-law: Barbara Roberts, Tulsa, OK; many nieces and nephews and beloved pets Jordan, Marvin and Blizzard.

He was preceded in death by his father Charles, mother Berenice , and stepfather James Kivett.

Funeral Service: 11:00 a.m. Saturday, (8-20-11) Roper and Sons Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street. Pastor Kerry O’Bryant, officiating. A reception will be held immediately following the service at the Legacy Estates, 7200 Van Dorn. Burial in the Oakwood Cemetery, Weeping Water, NE.

Memorials to the Capital City Humane Society, Lincoln Seniors Foundation or Weeping Water Methodist Church.

Visitation: 2:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. Friday with family greeting friends from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., funeral home.
