Jerald “Jerry” Lee Scheffler

Jerald “Jerry” Lee Scheffler, 62, of Lincoln passed away on January 11, 2019. He was born on August 14, 1956 to Perle and Ruth (Brunken) Scheffler in Norfolk, NE. He was a member of Southwood Lutheran Church. Ministry was always a key part of Jerry’s life. He witnessed to junior high and high school students as a youth leader for First Baptist Church and for 17 years as the area director for Young Life in Norfolk, NE.

He loved taking time to interact with kids, playing church league softball, and attending Young Life’s Frontier Ranch camp in Colorado while sharing the gospel. Jerry was ordained as a minister and worked as a Hospice chaplain for the last 14 years, most recently with Hospice Community Care in Lincoln, NE. He was a loving father and husband, and he was a proud grandfather who enjoyed attending the activities of his 12 grandchildren. He was an avid Husker fan, a talented guitarist, and a Mr. Fix It, but most of all Jerry was happiest when he spent time with his family.

Family members include his wife Joyce (Hansen), Lincoln, NE; sons Jeremy (Heather) Scheffler, Lincoln, NE, and Joshua (Heather) Scheffler, Pocatello, ID; step-children Wendy Samson, Pleasant Dale, NE, Stacy (Marc) Groetzinger, Aurora, NE, and Zach (Kenzie) Martin, Lincoln, NE; grandchildren Jonah, Clara, Aubrey, Kaitlyn, Nicholas, Madison, Jack, Claire, Vivian, Betsy, Hayden, and Lena; brothers Robert (Nancy) Scheffler, Claremont, CA, and Ron (Linda) Scheffler, Elkhorn, NE; numerous sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Mary Beth (Kratochvil) and sister Bonnie.

Funeral Services to be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 19, 2019, at Southwood Lutheran Church, 4301 Wilderness Hill Blvd (16). Pastor Michael Ryan officiating.

Visitation will be held Friday (1/18), from 2:00-8:00 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Roper and Sons South Lincoln Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Drive, (40th and Yankee Hill Rd).
