James ‘Catfish’ Moeller

October 2, 1928 - July 8, 2021

James 'Catfish' Moeller

James “Catfish” Moeller, 92 a lifelong resident of Lincoln passed away July 8, 2021.

Catfish attended Lincoln High School, became a member of the Naval Reserves, and eventually became employed by the C.B. & Q railroad as a fireman.  He married Carole Erickson, which he viewed as his greatest achievement and they had three children: Steven, David, and Suzanne. He continued railroading for over 35 years becoming an engineer and being very active in union activities. He was also a successful stockbroker selling mutual funds. He joined the Shrine and became a Shrine clown, he won “Clown of the Year” in 2001 and was featured on the cover of the 2016 Shrine Circus program.

Catfish had a sense of humor that had no limits, and he could tell stories that not only entertained you but could also make you blush. When people asked him how he got the name “Catfish” (which was both his railroad nickname and clown name) this was one of the stories he told: “On one trip as a young fireman, I was working with an old engineer and he said I reminded him of a catfish, all mouth and no brains”.

Survived by his son Steve, grandchildren James and Zachary, and many other beloved family members. Preceded in death by his parents, wife Carole, daughter Suzanne, and son David.
