George William Neill
George William Neill, 81, of Lincoln, passed away on October 29, 2018. Born on February 10, 1937 in Lincoln to George and Beryl (Lamson) Neill. George graduated Lincoln Northeast High school in 1955 and shortly after married Loretta Nichols. George was passionate about sports especially baseball as the boys played baseball with Little Chiefs in the summer and he coached the teams. He played, coached and managed a semi pro baseball team sponsored by Moose Lodge, coached a Salvation Army Small Fry Basketball Team also sponsored by Moose Lodge for 30 years and was a member of the Lincoln Umpire Association for 20 years. When he wasn’t involved with baseball, he was an avid fisherman and would travel to many different lakes. George worked for 3 different print shops throughout his life for over 25 years and then went on to work for Burlington Railroad as a Hostler for another 20 years before “retiring” although he never fully retired as he was always wanting to stay active in the community.
Family members include his wife, Loretta; his four children, Tim (Connie) Neill, Doug (Sue) Neill, Pat (Shannon) Neill and Cyndi Beam (Glenn Boyer); 20 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, 2 great great grandchildren and numerous extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 1st from 2-8 p.m. with family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. at Roper and Sons Funeral Home, 4300 O’ Street.
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, November 2 at 4:00 p.m. at Heritage Presbyterian Church, 800 S. 35th Street. A 2:00 p.m. prior burial to take place at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery please meet at Gate 2.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Heritage Church or to the Salvation Army Small Fry Basketball Team.
