Obituary

Evelyn Marie Priefert

October 27, 1919 - September 28, 2018

Evelyn Marie Priefert, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away September 28, 2018 at the age of 98. She was born 10/27/1919 to Edward Zierenberg and Salora Church Zierenberg. She was proud of her heritage, as her ancestors came over from England on the Mayflower. She had many interests, including a love of dogs, sewing and quilting, reading, gardening, traveling and camping with her family. She was an active member of Disciples of Christ churches in Fairbury and Lincoln. In both churches, she was a member of the quilting group.

Evelyn grew up on a farm by Thompson, NE. She and her sister Deane rode to school in a horse drawn carriage. She graduated from Fairbury high school in 1938 and worked for the Fairbury Creamery.

She married Orvil Priefert in 1942 when he was in the Air Force. They had 4 children, Ron Priefert (deceased), Kathy Huff, Lincoln; Mary Dowell (Wes), Georgetown, TX; and Tom Priefert (Deanna), Valpairaso. They lived on a farm near Reynolds, NE.

Following the death of her husband in 1963, she moved to Fairbury and worked as a Clerk at the Fairbury City Offices. She also trimmed dogs and was once described as a “dog whisperer”. When she moved to Lincoln, she continued to have a dog trimming business. Because she was so skilled, her loyal customers from Fairbury brought their dogs to her house in Lincoln.

Evelyn is survived by her children Kathy, Mary and Tom; son-in-law Wes Dowell; daughter–in-law, Deanna Priefert; grandchildren Sharon Priefert, Fairbury; Ami Huff, Lincoln; Andy Huff, Lincoln; Wesley Dowell, Houston, TX; Sarah Dowell, Dallas, TX; Hannah Priefert, Lincoln; Emily Priefert, Valparaiso; Katelyn Priefert, Valparaiso; and great granddaughter Salora Huff, Lincoln; and several beloved nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by parents, husband, sister Deane Pierce and son, Ron.
