Obituary

Elizabeth Ann “Beth” Smith

August 19, 1956 - January 20, 2021

Elizabeth Ann ‘Beth’ Smith of Lincoln passed away January 20th, from complications due to Covid-19.  Beth was born on August 19th, 1956 to Katherine & Phillip Smith in Holdrege, Ne.  The Smith family moved to Lincoln where Beth graduated from PIUS X high school in 1974.

Beth was accomplished in many things, a true renaissance woman who loved art, reading, camping, gardening, traveling & family and friends.  Beth loved collecting antiques from the Craftsman and Art Deco style.  Beth travelled the Globe, taking a bus trip through Mexico, camping in the Colorado mountains and dining in the Swiss Alps.  She loved to see the world and made new friends wherever she landed.  Beth graduated from UNL with a B.A. in Political Science and began work managing a Goodwill store in Minneapolis during the 1980s.  Beth loved the mountains so her adventures then took her to Yellowstone National Park where she managed the Lake Yellowstone Hotel restaurant from 1986-1993.   Beth then moved back to Lincoln to be closer to family and obtained her Masters of Community & Regional planning degree from University of Nebraska, Lincoln.  Beth helped several small towns in Nebraska work on their tourism and community services.

In 1995, Beth married fellow high school Pius X Alum Daryl Ebert, the love of her life and they had a beautiful life together along with their many animals and friends.

Beth will always be remembered for her kindness, her ability to help others and her love of friendship with a group of lifelong lady friends affectionately called, ‘The Broads”.  Beth was also a regular at the Drumstick and Zoo Bar for Jazz and the Blues. Beth and Daryl’s Christmas and Summer parties were legendary, as well as the annual Poppy Party, a wonderful welcome to summer days.

Beth is preceded in death by her parents, Katherine & Phillip Smith and sister Margaret.  She is survived by her husband, Daryl and siblings Mary (Lynn) & Michael.  Family members: Harold & Lorraine Ebert, Gary (Vicki)  Valerie (Darrell) Karen (Kevin) nieces & nephews Katherine (Richard) Thomas (Akisan) Erin (Tye) Elizabeth, James (Quynh)  Patrick (Deborah)  Brendon (Lisa)  Brian (Roxanne) Erin & Jenny, many cousins: great nieces/nephews Nicholas, Ryan, Colleen, Jordan & Maggie,  caretaker Dee & her best friend, Mary Knight.

Celebration of life to be held at a later date due to Covid-19. Special thank you to Tabitha Hospice and High Plains Special Care.

Memorials to the Capital Humane Society in Beth’s name, cards or flowers may be sent to Daryl Ebert, 725 South 29th, Lincoln, NE 68510
