Dixie J. Blumer
Dixie Blumer, age 94, was born to August Willard Johnson and Inez Hanson Johnson in Hamilton County, Iowa and died on July 3, 2021 in Lincoln, Nebraska, family all around.
Dixie grew up on a farm near Ellsworth, Iowa and graduated from Jewell High School where she excelled at basketball and trumpet. She attended Waldorf College, where she met her husband, Leo, a fellow student who coached her softball team.
Marriage to Leo led to many moves due to job transfers, and they eventually settled in Omaha, Nebraska. Dixie was busy raising four children but devoted much time to the League of Women Voters. Travel was her passion, and she valued the educational opportunities that travel afforded her children. Dixie and Leo traveled all over the world together. A retirement move to Hendersonville, North Carolina, where she lived for 30 years, allowed her to indulge in her love of hiking in the mountains.
Dixie is survived by her children: Barbara Blumer (Ed Martini) of Eagan, Minnesota; Kendall Blumer (Celeste) of Clayton, Missouri; Jeri Skelton (Richard) of St. Charles, Illinois; Alicia Henderson (Steve) of Lincoln, Nebraska; eight grandchildren: Jessica and Libbi Hoel, Erin and Kerri Blumer, Kati and Jack Skelton, Becky Henderson and Meghan Kamran and five great grandchildren: Orion and Leo Gutschow, Owen Ohrn, Isla Kinnison and Cecilia Kamran. Her parents and sister, Bonnie Blumer, preceded her in death.
