C. Cale Hudson

A lifelong supporter of public education, Cale taught physics and mathematics, was a high school principal and superintendent of schools after completing his undergraduate and graduate degrees at Indiana University. As a UNL professor, his areas of expertise were public school finance and school business administration. He worked on school finance studies for seven states and authored the extensive school finance project for Nebraska.

Cale will be remembered for his generous nature. He championed the welfare of children and was a lifelong advocate for women’s rights. His standard answers to problems were: “You always have a choice.” “Never assume anything” “Compared to what?” and “It’s just a matter of physics.”

Cale and his wife, Ruth, had seventy-two years together as a loving couple. He was proud of his four daughters and liked to do projects with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth; daughters Elaine Christiansen (Michael Goff), Beth Hudson, Ann Uhlig (Dan), and Alice Hudson (L.J. Harvey); grandchildren Tanya Keelan, Abby Christiansen, Annie Nitz and Lindsay Molina; great grandchildren Shaun Norris, Avery Shafer, Alex Neill, Elisabeth Neill, Eli Nitz, Naomi Molina and Irelyn Molina; cousins Judith Auxier and Joe Dishman (Judy); niece Kathy Grimwood.

He will be deeply missed by all who love him. May he land a big one as he back-trolls for walleye.
