Bernita Ruth (Loesch) Neujahr. 90, of Lincoln, passed away January 29, 2020. Born May 17, 1929 in Fairmont, Oklahoma to Hubert and Martha (Krey) Loesch.

She was confirmed April 2, 1944, at Zion Lutheran Church in Fairmont, Oklahoma. She attended Concordia High School and Concordia College in Seward, Nebraska.

On March 25, 1951, Easter Sunday, she married Ray Neujahr. Bernita taught at St. Paul’s Lutheran School in a one-room school near Gresham, Nebraska. Bernita was a substitute teacher at Waverly Elementary, and also worked at General Telephone, PCA, and Novartis. In addition, she spent many hours on the farm, driving the grain truck, and preparing meals. She especially loved making her favorite: fried chicken and mashed potatoes. Her homemade pies and cinnamon rolls were loved by many.

Bernita was an active LWML member, where she served as President of Nebraska District South and Peace Lutheran Church. She attended many national and international conventions. She also taught Sunday School, confirmation classes, and played the organ at church.

One of her greatest passions was collecting teapots. She traveled around Nebraska and surrounding states using her teapots to speak about God’s word.

She was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Lincoln from 1956-1969. Later, Bernita, Ray, and Mervel & Louise Reed established a new church — Peace Lutheran — in Waverly, Nebraska.

Survived by her husband of 68 years, Ray; children Lila (Bruce) Thompson, Lynn (Joyce) Neujahr, LeEtta (Doug) Rudolph, Loren (Terri) Neujahr; 15 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; sister Leora and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, sister Norma, brother Paul, daughter Lois Ann, great-granddaughter Abigail and nephew Stanley.
