Archie Wayne Hilliard
June 25, 1932 – March 19, 2021

Archie Wayne Hilliard, 88, of Lincoln passed away March 19, 2021 with his family by his side. He was the last of four sons and one daughter of Harry and Elizabeth (Harvey) Hilliard, born at home on the farm in 1932. He was no stranger to hard work but loved farming, and met his bride, Helen at that time. They were blessed with three beautiful sons, Leland, Harold, and Rodney.  Making a move back to Union College where Sam Reinholtz started him on his journey at plant services at Union College to eventually become a master electrician and department head. He retired after 43 years at Union College.

After his wife died in 1954, Archie met Shirley, at the BeeBee Clinic in Fort Collins, CO where his brother, Dr. Clarence worked. Archie blended his three teenage sons with Shirley’s teen son David and daughter Debbie (Connie and Sher had married) was ever up to the challenge of work and school schedules, camping trips, and church involvement.

Archie guided many a young people in plant services, as well as many people in the community while at work with a smile and often a prayer or blessing. Archie also carried his toolbox along on vacations, sharing his skills whenever needed.

Archie received an honorary degree from Union College in 2005 for his many years of service. His beautiful flowers and garden on Calvert street brought happiness to many passing by.

Archie always took time to start the day out with Bible study and prayer, and was a faithful church member of College View SDA Church as well, serving as deacon, elder, and sabbath schoolteacher, but most of all he was a caring husband, dad, uncle, grandpa, and friend, taking time out for each one and making them feel special and loved.

Shirley was so blessed to have daughter Debbie right there to help with this whole journey and especially the last week of full care along with grandson Joshua and wife Soomin.

Archie even made his hospice care team feel welcome and appreciated as they spent time with him each week through his bout with leukemia. Nurse Crystal Anderson, Past Jim and health aide Vasti Rio Reyes were the wonderful hospice team that come to care for Archie since his diagnosis for leukemia in June 2020 to his passing. Archie’s greatest prayer is to wake up from his short sleep of death to see each of his precious family and friends, rejoicing at the miracle of resurrection and the journey to heaven together, all burdens and sufferings over, to enjoy life forevermore.

Family members include his wife Shirley; sons Leland Hilliard, Concord, CA; Harold (Pat) Hilliard, Broadway, VA; 7 grandchildren; step-children Sher (Guy) Pipilli, Elgin, OR, Constance (Roderick) Criswell, Willits, CA, Deborah McDaniel, Lincoln; 3 step-grandsons.
