Obituary

Dawn Maria Borges

February 20, 1970 - October 17, 2022

Dawn Maria Borges, 52, of Lincoln, passed away October 17, 2022. Born February 20, 1970 in Hebron, Nebraska to Robert and Lois (Johns) Schneider.

Dawn attended Grand Island Senior High School where she met the love of her life, Bob Borges. In 1987, Bob graduated high school and eventually left to serve in the Marines. Dawn graduated in 1988 and the following year, Bob and Dawn were married in Las Vegas on May 6, 1989. After their wedding, Dawn moved to Lincoln where she attended Southeast Community College, achieving her certification as a Dental Assistant in 1992.

Dawn’s career aspirations grew and she sought employment with the State of Nebraska, first serving with the State Patrol doing background checks, then with the Department of Corrections in their mail area which led her to a position at the US Postal Service as a rural route carrier. Dawn loved working her route with the postal service and especially enjoyed the customers she served. She loved talking to everyone and always found joy in visiting with people.

Dawn was a lover of music, especially country, but could be caught listening to a vast array of musical styles. She also loved to draw and leaves behind stacks of drawings that will continue to be enjoyed.

Dawn and Bob had many beloved animals over the years beginning with a teacup poodle they had for 19 years that was appropriately named T.C. As the years carried on, more pets joined the family including two more dogs, Princess and Daisy, and three cats, Tiger, Bootie, and Sara.

Dawn was a beautiful, artistic, and kind soul in this world, loved dearly by those who knew her, and who will be greatly missed.

Family members include her husband of 33 years, Bob; sisters Christine Gibson and Michelle (Bob) Mulligan; brother David Schneider and fiancé Christi Krause; several nieces and nephews, and numerous great-nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her parents.

I miss her

Dawn was a part of our family. Always with a smile and a greeting. Our dog would hear the mail truck coming and beg to go meet Dawn. We will miss many fond memories of her occasionally bringing our mail to the door to visit and play with the dog.

Dawn was our mail carrier and will be missed by many! She was always so sweet! Left tiny tootsie rolls with our mail and often left treats for our dogs! She was always friendly and had a smile on her face! When I picture her I see her with her silly antenna headbands on! Our sincere condolences to her family and loved ones. We were shocked to hear the news. RIP Dawn.

Dawn was our mail carrier! She will be missed by our puppy Shiloh and by me! I loved talking with her, when she had time. She always had a hug for me when I was down and a pets for our dogs. Hugs and prayers to you!

We have lived in North Hills for 14 years. Dawn was always the friendly postal worker that we would say hello or wave to when she passed by. Always had a smile on her face. She would leave candy in the mailbox for my son. Will miss seeing her smiling face 😞

My sincerest condolences to family and friends as you begin your journey without Dawn’s sweet presence. My heart too is broken this day as her dedicated, cheerful and happy soul has left this earth. I’m one of many Lincolnites who knew her and her loving soul and who appreciated both her service and sincerity. We will miss all that she did for us. “May flights of angles bear her to her rest.”
