Thomas P. Douglas

Thomas P Douglas died on May 22, 2018 in Villa Hills, KY. Born in DeLand, Florida on April 12, 1928 to Ray Addison and Emma (Swanson) Douglas.

He grew up in Omaha, worked since age 9. He delivered ice blocks, graded eggs, constructed the State Historical Society Building, and riveted B-29 bomber wings during WWII. Tom graduated Omaha Technical High School in 1946 and served in the Army’s 29th Engineer Base Topographic Battalion in the Philippines. Tom finally enrolled at Univ. Nebraska at Lincoln courtesy of the GI Bill where he joined Delta Chi Fraternity and met Lorraine. They married in 1950 and Tom became a History, Psychology, and Social Studies teacher first at Irving Junior High, then at Lincoln Southeast High School when it opened in 1955 until his retirement in 1993. Tom loved gardening, bird watching, walking, and food. He delivered Meals on Wheels with a home-grown tomato for every person.

Tom is survived by his daughter Betty, son-in-law James Bunte, grandchildren Jasper and Emma; nephews John Douglas, William Anderson and their families, plus numerous nieces and nephews for whom he was the fun uncle. Preceeded in death by his wife, Lorraine (Ryon) Douglas, and his siblings John, Robert, Virginia Anderson/ Hathaway and Mary Backman.

Memorial Service: 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2018 at Roper and Sons South Lincoln Chapel, 3950 Hohensee Drive (40th & Yankee Hill Rd.).
