Shirley L. (Deyke) Thompson, 91, died at Brookdale-Greenwood Village, CO on Wednesday, March 1, 2018. Shirley was born in Brady, NE on December 22, 1926 to George and Dulcie (Swancutt) Larkin. She attended Stephens College in Columbia, MO and graduated from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, NE. Shirley was a member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority at the University. While attending the University, Shirley met her life-long love, Vern Deyke. Following graduation, Shirley taught Kindergarten in North Platte, NE.

On June 2, 1951, Shirley married Vern F. Deyke, M.D. and resided in Columbus, NE until the fall of 1988 when they relocated to Lincoln, NE. Shirley was an active member of P.E.O. Chapter CH in Columbus and remained active in the Sisterhood throughout her life. In the mid-1980’s, she served on the Nebraska P.E.O. board.

Shirley is survived by 3 daughters, Jann (Jim) Schroeder, Severance, CO; Julie (Jim) Lindsey, Peoria, AZ; Jodie (Joe) Silla; Parker, CO; granddaughters, Megan (Nate) Murphy, Severance, CO; Chrissy (Tyler) Jones; Eaton, CO; grandsons, Hunter Hedlund, Peoria, AZ; Sam Silla, Parker, CO. 2 great-grandchildren, Mason and Madelyn Murphy, Severance, CO.

Shirley was preceded in death by husband of 40 years, Vern F. Deyke; husband, Lohren Thompson; parents George and Dulcie Larkin; brother, Stanford G. Larkin.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 10, at Roper & Sons South Funeral Home, 3950 Hohensee Drive, Lincoln, NE. with visitation beginning at 9:30 a.m. First Lutheran Church’s Pastor Dan Warness will officiate. Burial will be at Lincoln Memorial Park following the service.
