Robert L. “Bob” Schindler

May 23, 1941 - December 31, 2017

Robert L.

Robert L. “Bob” Schindler, 76, Lincoln, passed away December 31, 2017. Born May 23, 1941 in Hartington, NE to Lloyd and Leona (Weseloh) Schindler. Graduated from Hartington H.S. at the age of only 15. Attended Wayne State College to party. Bob sold shoes for Gold’s Dept. Store and loved playing pitch at lunchtime. Nathan Gold was a great inspiration to him. He opened his own shoe store in Great Falls, MT before returning to Lincoln. He sold shoes for awhile and then began working for Snyder Industries. Bob went out on his own to form J.B. Associates along with his partner Jim Hudson. He was self employed and they contracted with Norwesco selling poly tanks.

Bob traveled all over the country but always home to be with his family on the weekends. He sold the company in 1992 and bought a place at Lake of the Ozarks where he sold boats for something to keep him busy.  He and his wife, Sandra traveled to all the continents.  It was important for Bob to see every continent. He and his wife were fortunate to do this! He loved the people and always said, “everyone has to go to a third world country”.

Bob was a member of the Shrine, Ducks Unlimited, Isaak Walton and Idiots Club (which gave money to buy gifts for children in Missouri).

Bob found great joy upon the birth of his two grandchildren, It was his most happy time when he was with them, laughing and enjoying every minute together!

He loved to go wave running with Christopher and Tasman, hunting, and going on fishing trips to Canada.  He was always very giving and ready to have a good time. He and Sandra had a wonderful life together making many memories.

Bob’s girls, Jani and Sheli, meant the world to him. He was so very proud of his girls for being such great mothers and career women. When they found their true love, he was so comforted to know they would be supported in fulfilling their dreams.

Family members include his wife of 56 years, Sandra Backemeyer Schindler; children, Janelle (Arthur) Rosenfeld, Michelle (Chris) Ziboh; grandsons, Tasman and Christopher; sisters, Margaret Reibold and Mary Lou Bridgman; brother-in-law, Ken (Pat) Backemeyer; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by parents and other relatives.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Monday (1-8-18) 3:00 p.m. at Roper and Sons Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street.

Following the memorial service there will be a reception at the DAV, 3901 North 70th Street.

Memorials in lieu of flowers may be given to the Shrine Hospital for Children.
