Richard “Dick” L. Becker
Richard “Dick” L. Becker, 81, of Lincoln passed away on September 2, 2017. Born February 14, 1936 to Laura and Richard E. Becker in Stanton, NE. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Stanton, attended grade school and graduated from Stanton High School in 1954.
In 1956 Richard enlisted in the U.S. Army. He was stationed at Arlington National Cemetery in Fort Meyer, VA and served with the 1st Battle Group, 3rd U.S. Infantry “The Old Guard”, the Army’s official Ceremonial unit and escort to the President.
In 1957 he married his high school sweetheart, JoEllen Larson. To this union were born 3 children, Dana, Jill and Rick.
Richard graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1961. Upon graduation he was employed by Precision Industries in Lincoln and Omaha, retiring as Vice-President of Purchasing in 2000.
Richard was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. He was an avid Cornhusker fan and Lionel Train collector. Most of all he loved the Lord, his precious family, and feline friends Macy and Max.
He is survived by his loving wife JoEllen; children, Dana (David) Mann, Jill (James) Prai, Rick Becker; grandchildren, Rachel (Stephen) Hayes, Paul Mann, Richard Mazikani, Jamie (Ray) Vaz, Chris (Sarah Petska) Connor, Eric Connor, Mackenzie, Logan, and Andrew Becker; brother, Burton Becker; cousin, Robert (Billie) Bussmann; nieces, friends, and loved ones. Preceded in death by his parents and “Aunt Jim” Bussmann.
Celebration of Life service will be held 11 a.m., Thursday (9-7-17) at Sheridan Lutheran Church, 6955 Old Cheney Rd.
A memorial gathering with family greeting friends will be held from 5-7 p.m., Wednesday (9-6-17) at Roper and Sons Funeral Home, 4300 ‘O’ St. Cremation/no burial.
