Matt Lutomski, 24, of Austin, TX died November 29, 2018 at 7:52 p.m. We all die. It’s how we live that matters. He lived fully. He enjoyed a childhood, filled with love, sports, travel, friends, always seeking self-actualization. Earned Eagle Scout rank. Played cello. Attended Lincoln East Highschool and was a member of the National Youth Leadership Forum and National Honor Society. Awarded a Regent’s Scholarship he graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Nebraska Lincoln. He lived and lead with his brothers at the Delta Upsilon Fraternity holding positions: Judicial Board Member, Homecoming Chairman, VP of Membership Education, and House Manager. At UNL he was an Honors Program Student Advisory Board President, Order of Omega President, Mortar Board President, Pi Tau Sigma Mechanical Engineering Honors member, Engineering College Ambassador and actively volunteered.
His career included de-tasseling corn, Research Assistant for UNL, interned at Victory Energy and EAD Engineering. Upon graduating accepted a job at National Instruments in Austin, TX February 2016. He started as an applications engineer, moved to Verastan co-team leader, then was promoted to a systems engineer. At NI he worked to improve internal operations and on projects for NASA, SpaceX, Boeing, Northup and others. He loved his co-workers, his industry and respected NI.
Matt hiked in Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, and California. He loved road and mountain biking and snowboarding. With an abundance of friendships and overwhelming love, he repaid these gifts freely by helping friends, family members, and acquaintances reach their potential through encouragement and reminding them of their unique talents. He used his quick wit and subtle sense of humor to make those around him feel welcomed. While he left us too soon, he left knowing he was loved. His smile slid into our hearts and resides there still.
