Gayle I. Lebsack

Gayle Irvin “Leb” Lebsack, 89, of Lincoln, passed away November 2, 2017. Born November 29, 1927 in Lincoln, NE to Jacob and Gladys (Carlson) Lebsack. Gayle attended Saratoga Elementary and Irving Jr. High and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1945. While in high school he was an All-State athlete in basketball and track and was named as Player of the Year in basketball in 1945. He was the recipient of the Harry Sidney Dobbins Award which is given to the most outstanding senior athlete and scholar. In 1987, Gale was inducted into the Lincoln High School Athletic Hall of Fame.

He attended the University of Nebraska where he was a member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He became a member of the “N” Club by playing varsity basketball for 2 years.

In 1951, Gayle married Velma McGrew and they had two children together, Roxane and Martin.

Gayle enlisted into the U. S. Air Force in 1951 of which he spent one year in Korea. He was discharged on February 11, 1956 in Dayton, OH.

In 1956, Gayle accepted employment with Associates Corp of North America which took him to Lincoln, Des Moines, Dodge City, Council Bluffs, and Omaha. He then transferred to Las Vegas, NV and spent 27 years there before retiring in 1988.

After his wife Velma’s death, Gayle moved back to Lincoln in 1993. He met and married Margaret Ann “Peggy” Jackman on October 20, 1994. He had commented many times that he was the luckiest man in the world to have married two wonderful ladies.

His greatest loves were music (especially 1940’s), golf, movies, dining out, and traveling.

Family members include his wife, Margaret “Peggy” (Jackman) Lebsack; daughter, Roxane (Tom) Weyhrauch, Gig Harbor, WA; son, Martin Lebsack, Las Vegas, NV; Peggy’s sons, Jim (Jacque), Thom (Kaylyn), Bill, Douglas (Kris) and Daniel (Brenda) Jackman; grandchildren, Jordan, Derek (Kendra) and Lauren Weyrauch; Dustin and Gina Lebsack, Peggy’s grandchildren, Tyler, Amanda, Grant, Chandler, Andrew, Abbie, Maisie, William and Thomas; great grandchildren, Michael Lebsack, Merrick Jackman; sister, Janet (Virgil) Wieting, Lincoln; Preceded in death by parents; first wife, Velma; and sister, Betty Ann.

Funeral Service: 1:00 p.m. Tuesday (11-7-17) Roper and Sons Chapel, 4300 ‘O’ Street. Burial in the Palm Memorial Cemetery, Las Vegas, NV.
