David Hirschfeld, 75, of Lincoln, passed away on April 23, 2018. He was born on April 2, 1943, to Herman and Mae (Cotner) Hirschfeld
He graduated from Waco High School in 1961 and earned a Bachelor’s in Education from the University of Nebraska in 1965. Dave continued at UNL to receive a Master’s in Educational Administration 1970.
Dave married Linda (Rickertsen) in May 22, 1966. They started out their married life in the community of Wilsonville Nebraska where they were both teachers. Dave also coached and became superintendent of Wilsonville’s School. Dave went on to work for Nebraska’s State Department of Education.
In 1972 Dave returned to the family farm. He worked in partnership with his brother, HP Hirschfeld, as a farmer in the Waco community until symptoms of Parkinson’s Disease prompted him to retire.
Dave was active in the Waco community, serving for many years on the school board for Centennial High School, Waco Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department, Gideon’s, and was a life-long member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church.
Dave loved spending time with his family. He received much joy from attending many musical performances and sporting events of his children and more recently his grandchildren.
Survived by: his wife Linda (Rickertsen) Hirschfeld; children: Ann Hirschfeld of Lincoln, Jeanne & Patrick McClure of Lincoln; Ken &Tracy (Carnell) Hirschfeld of Papillion, and Ben & Carolyn (Kosek) Hirschfeld of Omaha. Sisters, Charlotte Luethje of Roca; Shirley& Gilbert Naber of Waco; brother, Herman P. & Coleen (Hoffschneider) Hirschfeld of Waco; mother-in-law, Bertha (Stevens) Rickertsen of Lexington; brothers-in-law, Bryan & Marleen (Retzlaff) Rickertsen of Walton; Bruce & Julie (Mohlman) Ricketsen of Lexington; and sister-in-law, Carma & Galen Ewer of Sandy, UT. Grandchildren: Christian, Kendal, and Kimbal McClure of Lincoln; Camryn, Casey, Jacob, and Carrie Hirschfeld of Papillion; Abram and Mia Hirschfeld of Omaha. Proceeded in death by his parents Herman G.T. and Mae (Cotner) Hirschfeld and infant son.
A celebration of life will be held at Sheridan Lutheran Church, 6955 Old Cheney Road, Lincoln, NE, Friday April 27 at 10:30 a.m., with a luncheon to follow.
A private family burial will be held at a later date.
Memorials to the family will be given to Parkinson’s research and Sheridan Lutheran Church’s mission work with the Haitian Timoun Foundation.
