Cecil Leon Moreland, 83, Lincoln, passed away July 18, 2017. Cecil was born July 25, 1933 in Wyaconda, MO, the second child of Arthur and Marie (Fitzgerald) Moreland. Cecil was a U. S. Air Force veteran and a member of the Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed woodworking and was an avid outdoorsman, fishing and hunting throughout the US and Canada for many years. His working career included 20 years at Murray Iron Works and 20 years as Vice President of Purchasing at Nebraska Boiler Company.
Southeast Community College in Burlington, IA was a special place for Cecil. He earned his degree there and met his future wife.
Cecil was very active in the communities in which he lived, coaching little league baseball, participating on school board committees, and supporting the Art Guild in Burlington, IA, as well as joining the Sesostris Temple of the Shrine and Friendship Force upon moving to Lincoln, NE.
He loved traveling, visiting 47 of the 50 states and making 9 European tours. Not content with traveling himself, Cecil extended his hospitality to foreign visitors from 7 countries, both members of Friendship Force and foreign exchange students.
Cecil is survived by his wife of 56 years, Marcia; his daughters, Laura (Wayne) Hayden-Moreland, Pierre, SD, and Anita (Tim) Prockish, Waverly; his grandchildren, Annora (Adrian) Callari, Lincoln, Spencer and Gwendolyn Prockish, Waverly; his great-grandson, Owen Callari; and his sister, Doris Kesler, Burlington, IA.
There will be a private family service.
Because of the value Cecil placed on family and higher education, he requested, in lieu of flowers, donations might be made to Cecil Moreland’s Memorial at Union Bank in Lincoln to help further his grandchildren’s educations.
