Bodil J. “Betty” Young, 95, of Lincoln, passed away November 27, 2017. Betty was born on October 12, 1922 in Boonville, NY. She was a registered nurse in the U.S. Army as a Second Lieutenant and met her husband Max at Borden General Hospital, Chickasha Oklahoma, where he was recovering from injuries sustained in World War II. Betty was a recipient of an American Campaign Medal and a World War II Victory Medal. Max and Betty were married at Bethany Christian Church in Lincoln, Nebraska, on May 1, 1946. Betty’s life was defined by her family and her church. She was a devoted mother, aunt, grandmother and great-grandmother (known as Great Betty) and was a 70-year member of Bethany Christian Church. She loved her bridge gatherings with friends and was a long-time volunteer for Meals on Wheels.

Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Max Young; her parents, C. Ray and May Humphrey Harvey; siblings Margaret Hays, Mary Wendt, Ruth Hughes. Robert Harvey, Rae Marcy and Barbara Schweinsberg; and her granddaughter-in-law Dana Calhoun.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Nancy and Tom Hayden, daughter and son-in-law Jo and Bill Calhoun and son and daughter-in-law Scott and JoAnne Young, 5 grandchildren — Mark and Molly Calhoun, Carson Young (Ryoko Chonan), Elizabeth Flater (Adam) and Joseph Young (Michaela), 4 great-grandchildren and dozens of beloved nieces and nephews. A private family graveside service is planned for the coming days.
