Alan James Beck, D.D.S., 66, of Lincoln passed away September 21, 2018. Born September 10, 1952 in Columbus, Nebraska to Donald E. and Alice A. (Cutsor) Beck.
Alan grew up in Clarks, Nebraska. He was a 1970 graduate from Clarks High School. Prior to graduating with top honors in 1981 from the College of Dentistry, he received a degree from University of Nebraska-Lincoln School of Pharmacy. Immediately upon receiving his degree, he opened a general family dentistry practice in Lincoln, Nebraska. He felt blessed to have a successful practice and that he was able to provide care to several generations of families during his 30 year career.
Alan was very spiritual and his devotion to his faith was unwavering. In 2009, his path crossed with a young man, Jacque Auguste in Port au Prince, Haiti. Alan and Jacque became close friends, together their hard work and dedication to health care prompted them to establish a non-profit dental practice in Haiti. Emmaus Project mirrored Alan’s values and philosophy. He truly felt blessed by helping others; it brought a sense of value and fullness to his own life.
In addition to family and dentistry, gardening was his passion. Being outdoors was his second home and the garden was his sanctuary. Spring, being a sign of new life, was his favorite season.
In 2013, he became a grandfather and gained a new best friend. Alan felt the joy of being the fun grandpa. Their favorite thing to do together was to battle as superheroes and wrestlers, eat pepperoni pizza, and ice-cream sandwiches. The moments and memories they shared together will leave a lifelong impression on his grandson, Kamden.
Alan will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He is survived by his children, Kinsey Beck and Aden Beck, their mother Lori Beck and only grandchild, Kamden, who was the absolute joy of his life. He is also survived by his father, Donald Edward Beck, his siblings Wayne (Denise) Beck, Sharon (Tim) Horacek, Gloria Wolfe, Donna (Doug) Shenk, nieces and nephews.
