Gene Westlake, 73, of Lincoln, passed away April 6, 2018. Born July 11, 1944 the middle child of Clarence and Lucile Westlake. Raised on the family farm, graduated Eagle High School in 1962. Married Barbara in 1972 and raised her two sons as though they were his own on their small acreage near Alvo. He loved his big yard and garden. Loved sharing all the produce with family and friends and was especially proud of his asparagus and sweet corn crops every year. He enjoyed many fishing trips to Harlan County and tipping a few Hamm’s beers with friends. Gene faced many health challenges in the last 20years with an uncomplaining determination to stay active and continue to enjoy and appreciate each day of life with family and friends. Gene retired from Goodyear in 1990 and he and Barbara moved to Lincoln in 2011. A life-long Husker sports fan and always looked forward to playing keno and taking weekly trips to play video poker.
Survived by wife of 44 years, Barbara; sons, Ernie (Tina) of Arlington, TX, Kevin of Fort Worth, TX; granddaughters, Kayla (Caleb) of College Station, TX, Abby of Arlington, TX; great-grandsons Joseph and John Jacob; sister Helen Bley (Don) of Waverly, NE; brother-in-law Bill (Joan) of Steilacoom, WA; cousins Clinola Lemming and Arnie Westlake; nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
Preceded in death by parents, brother Robert, grandson Jared and granddaughter Britni.
Graveside Service: 10:00 a.m. Wednesday (4-25-18) Eagle Cemetery (across the road from Eagle Racetrack).
Celebration of Life luncheon will follow at 11:00 a.m. , Havelock Social Hall, 62nd and Platte, Lincoln.
